I'm Just Saying…

Shirt Off My Back

September13

it’s been a long time since i posted on the weekend – but with the laundry in the dryer and the cake that i baked for rosh hashannah lunch next weekend in the oven, i find myself with a few minutes to sit down and write.  i should say that i’m not so on top of things that i planned to bake a cake a week in advance (don’t worry, i’m not going to ice it, i’ll freeze it and i assume it will be fine).  rather i was planning to bake cookies for my mah jong game tomorrow night (SO EXCITED) but got home to discover that we didn’t have any brown sugar (i know!  it’s shocking!).  alas, i’m a girl who keeps at least one extra set of GRANDMA’S CHOCOLATE CAKE ingredients on hand at all times so i got to work on my back up plan.  but then when i went to gather the cocoa powder for the icing, there was none to be found.  mragh.  so the girls aren’t getting cake – i’ll pick something up on my way over after work.  but i can cross dessert off my list for next weekend.  not a bad compromise.

i had to work for a few hours this morning but it forced me out of the house so i was able to cross a number of errands off my list, including a top at BUFFALO EXCHANGE.  i’ve been reading a bunch of blogs recently written by women who thrift and while i thought i had grown out of that phase of my life (like after middle school) their style is totally inspiring and i really feel like i could use some individuality in my wardrobe.  and so i headed in with two bags full of clothes to trade.  i knew enough to be prepared for them to pick through my wares and only take the best pieces (and i tried to not take it personally as she folded and handed back to me a bunch of quality stuff!), but i was fairly surprised by what they bought and what they passed on.  i brought in a couple skirts from ann taylor that look brand new but haven’t been worn in more than a year – both passed.  a suede blazer, an old pea-coat from banana and a pair of tahari slacks…all passed.  but they bought two dresses from forever 21, a pair of converse and an old shmata from bloomingdales (aqua).  they said to bring back the jackets and slacks in the winter because they might want them then.  still i made $30 – SCORE!.  i was a bit too tired to shop after all the selling but i found a great plaid shirt that i plan to rock later this week (i might even include a picture), and i pocketed the rest of my credit for a later expedition.

alright, the timer is about to beep and i should fold laundry and start dinner production.  update to come after MAH JONG MONDAY!
