I'm Just Saying…

Man, Those Must be Some Really Long Wires

September7

look at me!  blogging from the plane!  so freaking awesome!

as i have mentioned before i HATE to fly, and i hate to fly with ABN even more.  but with wireless, the ability to plug in and have an endless amount of [battery] power, the second disc of the second season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, an inflight playlist that includes BRITNEY, THE DECEMBERISTS and JACK JOHNSON and a glass of wine…flying really isn’t so bad.  i mean, i’m not saying i want to get on a plane again tomorrow and i’m also not saying i’m not feeling a wee bit antsy (my ass officially fell asleep about 45 minutes ago), but i just might not dread future flights with quite as much passion as i have in the past.

my last few days of vacation have been really nice.  its possible i took a very short very secret road trip.  i got to see a few really important people and while i would have loved to stay longer and see more people, it was great to have a few hours smiling at the faces of the people who surrounded me.  i drove back to westport in time to cook dinner for my parents (it was the least i could do as i might not have refilled the gas in the car…) and ended the night with a family viewing of PROJECT RUNWAY and my dad’s homemade coffee ice cream AND caramel topping (truly TDF).

if you think i am a creature of habit (tv, red couch) i come by it honestly.  my parents eat dinner around their 50’s style chrome kitchen table.  they drink water in tall glasses and my mom often forgets the asparagus that she has heated in the microwave because after it beeped the first time she disarmed the alarm and so for the last ten minutes it has been sitting silently, hoping that she remembers.  my dad does the dishes and my mom sits in the mud room (i those only exist on the east coast) at her desk and checks her email and the westport news (if there’s anything of interest – a picture of a beautiful sunset at the beach, large crowd at a public event or a tree that has fallen in the middle of the road – she sends the picture to NANI and EDDIE and GRANDMA and PAPA, and she often copies me.  depending on how many dishes there are my parents then play exactly one game of BANANAGRAMS.  like mah jong, my mom likes the clicking noises that the tiles make on the smooth table top.  they then move into the den where they watch exactly two shows that are stored on their DVR from being taped earlier in the week.  during the reality shows they remark on the number of tattoos cast members have and gross they think tattoos are.  they fast forward through commercials but no matter how drawn out the elimination is, if they fast forward through even a second of action they rewind to make sure they haven’t missed anything.  if it’s a 1 hour crime drama then before the opening credits are through they debate whether or not they have seen the episode before – and my announces emphatically who has done it – he’s about 50/50.  between the two shows they get up and get a treat for dessert and then settle back in for the second show.  at quarter to 11 they head upstairs to bed.

like i said, i come by it honestly.

alright, my ears are popping which must mean we’re getting ready to land.  tomorrow’s back to work – i always get anxious about returning to any job after a while away – even back at PINEAPPLE NATION…weird i know.  super excited to see ABN!  i’ll be sure to give him a squeeze for you.
