I'm Just Saying…

If I Moved to da Port, I’d Have to Become a Blonde

September2

i know, i know.  while my post about blogs i follow hopefully led you to some fabulous reads, i know it didn’t reveal much about what’s been happening my life in the last week.  and there’s so much to report and by so much i mean a whole lot of mah jong practice – let’s get to it:

ABN and i spent this past weekend in falls village ct (ever heard of it?  didn’t think so) at the wedding of BZ and ER.  wow.  or more accurately – yie die die, die die, die die die die die, yie die die die (sung while pounding on the tables).  the event, which started at about 5:3opm on friday and wrapped up (for us) when we packed back into our car on sunday at about the same time was like nothing i had experienced before.  i’m a girl who goes to a lot of weddings (or at least i did two years ago) and more than that i’m a girl who goes to a lot of jewish weddings, but after this wedding experience and all the table banging, circle dancing and spontaneous ya ya ya-ing…it was as if it was my first experience.  the couple are beyond right for each other and loved by everyone that surrounded them under the chuppah and while the weekend was rainy and gray, the sun came out the moment they each walked down the aisle…it was a little piece of perfection.  i came home and slept for 12 hours.

ABN headed back to CA on monday (there was possibly a bit of miscommunication about how long i was required to stay in CT regarding the events i was required to attend…whatever) and since then i’ve officially become a woman of westport.  we play mah jong (well, they play and scratch my head), we eat lunch at the diner (and by eat lunch i mean nibble on leafy green vegetables, possibly with a slice of cheese, and gossip about local politics etc) and we read on the back porch (and get eaten alive by the bugs – just so everyone knows there are no bugs in SF).  i’m trying to take advantage of the downtime as much as possible and while my mom keeps asking what i want to do (nyc? movies? dare i say, shopping?) i know we’re both happier staying home and eating taco salad.

last night i did venture out of the confines of da port and drove to scarsdale to see DIDDY.  like last time, we quickly caught up on each other’s lives shared our hopes, dreams and fears about the future.  it makes me super excited to have a friend who lives in the burbs for when i come home.  as we sipped wine in her back yard and her baby quietly slept on the second floor i couldn’t help but giggle to myself – you’ve come a long way since GUCCI HOUSE.

alright, my mom has plopped herself down on the chair across from me which means its time for me to hop in the shower.  we’ve got a big day ahead: the marshall’s shoe megashop, the beach for lunch and mah jong with the ladies this afternoon!
