Cheese Island
because none of you live my life – exactly – its probably news to you that the jcc maccabi games (think – jewish teen olympics) kicked off in san francisco last night. but if you did live my life, believe me, you’d know. work has been planning for this for years (literally – there’s an entire satellite office that is devoted to the cause) and other than camp, the entire agency has stopped all other work to focus on THE GAMES. at the end of the day, it’s all pretty cool. it looked like every other jewish teen event i’d ever been part (lots of shrieking, hugging, and draping on one another) just on a much larger scale and in warm up suits.
while my camp duties keep me away from most of the action (which is probably fine) i did volunteer to work the opening ceremonies. i have to say, i think that i was assigned the perfect job – leading various delegations across the stadium floor. i pretty much felt like a rock star, which on a sunday night, isn’t so shabby. it was fun to spend time with teens again – i never saw myself as someone who’s main focus would be little kids – and it felt good to be back in my comfort zone.
earlier in the day ABN and i headed to golden gate park – mostly so that he could stop bitching that he had never had the opportunity to walk around (it was getting old). while the weather was less than perfect, it felt good to be outside and to explore. we had one of our typical ABN/LBN debates when we hit stow lake – what’s bigger – the lake itself or the island inside the lake. ABN argued that the island was bigger and i argued that was…impossible. clearly, if the island fits in the lake than the lake must be bigger. duh. squared. anyway, this went on way longer than necessary and you know around a few more times until we agreed that we were both right (and wrong) i our own special ways.
we’re at 2 weeks and counting as far as summer camp is concerned. i’m not sure what to do with that. suggestions?
Thank you
