October – it’s Right Around the Corner
it’s shavuot and, one year later, i find myself working at another jewish institution and so i am lucky enough to have the holiday off. amazing. but with camp starting two weeks from monday and staff week starting one week from monday, there’s a lot to do. a lot to do includes a doctor’s appointment yesterday where i got my very own ativan prescription. perfect timing. i can’t imagine getting through this summer without it.
i spent most of yesterday, while at work, debating whether or not i should go into the office today or work from home/coffee shop. clearly its more of day off when doing work from my red couch (with the last DVD of HIMYM season 1) but i sort of rationalized it would take more time to collect and forward all the necessary files i needed than to just go in where it would be quiet and accessible and actually get it done. then i realized that unlike other jewish institutions for which i have worked this agency is actually CLOSED. as in the building is locked and people can’t get in. i would argue this can’t be good for business as the fitness center is also closed – i feel like the average gym-goer doesn’t understand the deeper meaning of shavuot and might be sort of peeved when arriving for an invigorating workout only to be turned away because the staff is off eating blintzes. but hey, that’s just one girl’s opinion…i’m just saying.
with the building being closed, even though i was guaranteed, sort of, that i’d be able to wink at a security guard and get in, i began to have my doubts (confirmed by an email i received this morning saying that oh yeah, systems would be down most of the day). so i spent the last half hour downloading and forwarding and printing and bringing home one hell of a stack – see, this is why i always have to have a back up plan. am i giving myself an ulcer? probably. i’m determined to get stuff done. on the list for today and this weekend: letter/and mini schedule for the first day of every session (and remember, we run over 60 camps
), write staff training sessions (yeah…the schedule has been done for weeks but i haven’t so much decided what i’m talking about), edit the staff manual and as always, write programs. its a lot. there’s no way around it.
remember when i was the #1 seller? hmmmm…
before writing this i had been fantasizing about digging through the hundreds of recipes i’ve been bookmarking in some of my favorite recipe blogs over the past couple of months and choosing a couple of winners to cook tonight but the reality is – camp starts in two weeks and recipes can wait til october.
Thank you
