I'm Just Saying…

Asserting Myself – Controling the Red Envelope

May3

my life would be boring if every weekend went like this weekend – but because a weekend of sitting on my ass is not per usual, i have to say, i could get used to this.  in an effort to prevent a pattern, ABN and i already making action plans for next weekend.  its all about balance…right?

for a few months now ABN and i have been enjoying a netflix subscription.  for unknown reasons we were basically the last people to joint the movement (after all, even NANI and EDDIE have been getting their dvds through the mail for years now).  i remember something about ABN being disproportionately against the idea (i’m pretty sure there was an extensive rant involved) but why live in the past?  at some point i just decided it wasn’t worth the discussion and i signed us up.

we (and by we i mean, me, i am in control of the netflix queue) basically alternate between dvds that are purely for my viewing pleasure (sisterhood of the traveling pants 2) and things that the two of us can watch together (the dark knight).  its a nice alternative to the dvr because it can travel with me (i love having episodes of nip/tuck for long plane flights).  every now and then ABN points out that i have requested something that he has no interest in (no reservations, perhaps) and i point out that if he was in control we would have no movies period and that no one is forcing him to watch the dvd with me, after all, its an LBN week.  but i digress…

what netflix has really given us (ME, no US…whatever) is an opportunity to catch up on must see tv that we (I) have missed due to a lack of cable, a lack of time or a lack of getting in from the very start.  i already mentioned nip/tuck, but there’s also 30 ROCK, the first two seasons of which we have devoured (the LIZ/TRACY/JACK love triangle is just genius) and we’re anxiously anticipating the new seasons of BIG LOVE and THIS AMERICAN LIFE.

i know the last thing i need in my life is more hours in front of the tv but the reality is, its one of my favorite things to do.  and its even more fun when i can share the couch with ABN (as long as he’s not complaining, deep sighing in irritation/aggravation or talking) and netflix has given us that opportunity.  i think, if asked today, he would admit that the $7.99 a month is totally worth it, but i’ll err on the side of not asking, and maintaining my ultimate control over the queue.
