I'm Just Saying…

The Secret Life of the Male Shopper

December17

do you know the feeling, when you have ideas running through your head all day long that you can’t wait to get home and write about, until you do get home and you can’t get your computer to connect to the freaking internet?! ugh, so frustrating.

okay now that i’m live….

i’ve noticed a new trend at work – many many MANY more men shopping for the women in their lives than average. and they are the BEST customers EVER! it looks a lot like this:

average joe: (staring at the ceiling, the floor, anything but the actual clothes, pats and rubs and touches and sometimes smells, many of the articles of clothing that he passes).

me: hi! can i help you with anything?

aj: yes! i want to buy something!

me: great. i can help you with that!

aj: yeah….(dead silence, more touching of clothes).

me: okay, so were you thinking of anything in particular? we have some great cashmere that have been very popular (they always buy the cashmere, especially when marked down).

aj: cashmere? cashmere is good.

helping men shop for the women in their lives is super easy…i don’t know why i found it so intimidating way back when, when i was a retail virgin…and fast. once you put together a look and tell them you love it, done. in, out, 10 minutes.

a lot of guys seem to be into the idea of putting together an “outfit.” today i was helping this guy DUKE (it’s too good to change) and he had a sweater in his hands (yes, he was an “advanced” customer). i asked him if he needed help and found the size he was looking for (men also have no idea what “petite” means). then he asked me if i could help him find pants to go with the sweater, and a shirt. he wanted to know what “matched” which i found hysterical because he was holding a gray sweater. hello, neutral, goes with everything!!! of course when i picked out a cute pair of jeans and a pink shirt he was really concerned that the colors didn’t match. oy.

i mean, is it just me that thinks that this whole, “man shopping for his woman” thing is weird? ABN would NEVER walk into a STORE and ask a sales person for HELP buying CLOTHES! never gonna happen. not that he hasn’t purchased the most wonderful gifts for me (of course with the help of the JEWISH BARBIE) but he does his shopping online. which i think is a good thing because who knows, some some sales person might take advantage of him :) (not that i would ever do that…have you seen the leather trench coat? it’s bananas!).
