I'm Just Saying…

Cutting Back – Trying to Do My Part

December16

yesterday was a series of highs and lows…okay mostly lows but i’m trying to keep things in perspective. my car is broken – possibly very broken. possibly very broken beyond the point of repair. i know i don’t need a car to live in this city, there are many people that don’t rely on one, and we don’t use our car on a daily or even other-daily basis. but i’ve gotten used to having it around. big trip to the grocery store – check! drop someone at the airport – no problem! escape to LA – done it! it would be one thing to not have a car and then to all of a sudden have one, but to go the other way is just depressing. i’m staying positive, but for a few hours yesterday i was, well, a mess.

i went to buy new make up yesterday because i am out of foundation and who can go to a makeup counter and JUST buy a new foundation? that’s just not fun. new eye shadow? sure! a new technqiue for making my bleached blonde eyebrows less bleahed blonde (without the other kind of outcome) – alright i’ll try that too! at the end of the day, i was two steps out of the store before i realized i had spent way more than my yearly makeup allowance (i dn’t really have one of those) all in less than 45 minutes. it’s all going back today, including the foundation. i need a good, inexpensive moisturizing foundation (drug store?)….if you have a suggestion, let me know.

i forgot my book at home. i had been planning to read it during my lunch break. i hate it when that happens.

the store was again dead empty. it kinda makes me feel like that world is ending. that and you know listening to my podcasts (i’m a huge dork) about the economy being bust and the world ending. my coworker* the EXPERT (blog debut!) used to work at SAKS (i know) and no matter how dead the store is, he seems to sell his little asian heart out. as in the store will do around $13000 by around 3pm (its really slow!) and he will have done almost $4k of that! insane. never one to play second fiddle i’ve decided it’s time to step up my game. so i ran around to store helping every poor soul that would let me. EXPERT, you best watch your back, because this red head can be a selling machine when challenged. GAME ON!

*everyone at PINEAPPLE NATION thinks its weird that i refer to them as my coworkers. um, that’s what they are…right? if you have worked in retail, what do you refer to the people you share floor space with? i feel judeged because of my non-profit background.

I can’t remember the name of it, but there’s this rental car service in SF that my friends used to do that is awesome. You pay a monthly fee and pick up the car (I think it was a VW bug) whenever you need it from a gas station or someplace like that, and just return it when you’re done! It’s kinda like Netflix for cars!
As for the driving to LA thing, rental cars are SO cheap these days. I used to do that every time I’d take a trip to LA.

Georgia is talking about ZipCar. I do it in Chicago, too. It’s great. You just pay when you need it. http://www.zipcar.com

Maybe you can call them co-people. Or co-humans. Or co-lons.

i only use tinted moisturizer because i still want my freckles to show, but neutrogena makes a great one (and it has spf, so i mean how can you go wrong).
