OOOOOOOOH Baby do you Know What it’s Worth?
so….i was all ready to write the happiest of posts. describing my surroundings as heaven on earth…i mean, i’m basically there – a beautiful sunny day, a cafe/bar two blocks from our place (it’s actually called coffee bar), a cold beer. it’s perfect. almost. i should have known i was in trouble when i asked fora blue moon and they told me they didn’t have any that were cold. i’ve been walking by this place for a week and every time i think, “i’ll save it for tomorrow.” well today, with the weather i just didn’t want to wait anymore. the outside is a little courtyard that i expected would be full and besides, there was sure to be no place to plug in, but i figured inside, it’s a converted factory so there are floor to ceiling windows and everything is open. lovely. i order my beer, not a blue moon, and head upstairs where i find, literally one empty seat. everywhere there are people on laptops. but here’s the kicker…there appears to be no wireless. i don’t understand. this isn’t like boston – everywhere in san fran has wireless. but this place. or at least the other people (because there are 22 people on laptops) know something i don’t. i’m trying to figure out the situation by using the iphone (!) to read reviews on yelp…maybe there’s a secret, or a conspiracy. (update: i read the reviews on the iphone…there IS free wireless. why can i not get it?!?! this is one of those times i really want to call ABN at the office, but i’m pretty sure this doesn’t qualify as an emergency.). i should really just ask the guy sitting next to me who is clearly gmailing away…sometimes life i hard*.
- every pool has its own rules. like this one, only two people are allowed in each lane which means that if there are already two people in every lane…you wait. not so good for a quick trip to the gym…i had to wait 15 minutes before i could even get in to the water.
- every pool has its own rules #2…in other pools that i have swam in (8th grade) you went up one side of the lane and came back on the other side, in a circular motion. not in this pool. in this pool you and your lane partner each pick a side and stay with that side.
- swimming is utterly exhausting.
- when you swim, you use your arms a lot. after about 1.5 laps i feared my arms might detach themselves from my body in protest. on the 21st lap i realized that if i look down rather than ahead, my butt floats to the surface more and therefore my legs are a bigger part of the swimming experience and my arms don’t have to work quiet as hard…at 22 laps i got out because i feared that i might die…like really.
Thank you
