I'm Just Saying…

Noe like Bowie, as in David

July20

we have been eating turkey breast non-stop for the last three days so i think that means it all worked out.  ABN is thrilled to be eating his turkey sandwiches (a main staple of his east coast diet) which have been lacking since he began eating quinoa three times a day (if you want to know more, ask).  and while he raves about the mustard and sourdough bread, i think the turkey itself tastes pretty good, if i do say so myself.  still, i do take from my turkey breast experience a couple of important life lessons:

  • when calling home regarding a cooking question (especially a cooking question when one is going to spend more than $25 on a single product) and no one is there to answer the call, try again, call someone else, or decide to hold off on the culinary challenge until a connection has been made
  • furnished apartments don’t come with all of life’s necessities (ie. meat thermometer and baster).  it’s best to check out supplies before embarking on a culinary challenge
  • while it’s good to call home before making culinary decisions, once those decisions have been made, its best to just go with the flow.  you can check the internet just as well as mom for recipes and then mom doesn’t have to worry about things like checking for meat temperature…just call after the successful meal.
we live and learn.
together ABN and i seem to have survived our first full weekend on our new coast.  yesterday we went out to the peninsula to celebrate births and birthdays with CURLY and HIGHLIGHTS.  it worked out extremely perfectly that CURLY’S niece was born the same week we moved across the country but i’m definitely already having anxiety about what it will be like when she leaves.  even though yesterday was the first time either of us had time to see each other, it has been comforting to know that she is here if i need her.
today i took ABN on a walk around a couple of neighborhoods i have had the opportunity to explore while he has been at work.  as we walked  by the boutiques, coffee shops and BIKE STORES in noe valley i constantly hummed i want to live here i want to live here i want to live here, until it turned into more of a whine then a hum and was accompanied by a puppy-dog pout as if ABN was keeping me from life’s greatest joy.  i think he liked the area but he’s definitely concerned about how the hills will interfere with his biking plans…um, does he know we moved to san francisco?  we ended our walk with a stop at tartine bakery (i swear, i’m not going back again until we have visitors…i fear that just smelling the yumminess negated an entire week of walking!) and then a free performance by the  san francisco symphony in dolores park – yep, that’s how we do it.
